Mary Clark Gaston is a young artist from Greenville, SC that has been contributing to the Washington, D.C. arts community since 2007.

Her artwork is both grounded and spiritual, incorporating both earthy and ephemeral elements.  While she is trained in many of the visual arts, her main mediums are jewelry design and photography.

Mary Clark Gaston’s jewelry designs incorporate the use of stones, crystals and pearls, combining them in interesting patterns with gold and silver.  Her mastery of wire wrapping is evident and has allowed her to create intricate and unique pieces.  Her work ranges from classic to modern, including pearl strands and asymmetrical earrings.

Mary Clark Gaston’s photography includes both digital and traditional film works.  her digital photography often shows intimate images of the every day; chickens in front of a bar, a rope draped across the railings  of a bridge, a man stealing a quiet riverside moment.  However, these seemingly still moments are juxtaposed by their bright, saturated colors, reminding us to notice the beauty of the every-day.

Her film photography connects more to Mary Clark’s strong sense of spirituality.  These works bathe their subjects in a ghostly aura, making the viewer take notice of the unseen that constantly surrounds and connects us.
